ScoliScore

For years physicians had suspected a genetic link in Adolescent, Idiopathic Scoliosis and recent breakthroughs in genetic research have confirmed this.  Scoliscore is the first clinically validated and highly accurate genetic test for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) curve progression. Until now, when it came to AIS, many health care professionals are faced with significant uncertainty. Particularly when it comes to the biggest question of all—will the curves progress and what lies ahead if they do?

Now with ScoliScore this uncertainty can be eliminated thus allowing our doctor to select the best individualized treatment protocols for your child with a high level of confidence in it’s outcome.

Although AIS is a multi-factorial condition, with no apparent single cause there is a strong genetic link was long suspected in AIS due to anecdotal observations of inheritance patterns in AIS patients.  Recent advances in genetic technology has resulted in researchers identifying 28 signs in DNA that an AIS curve will progress (progressive genes), and 25 signs in DNA that an AIS curve will not progress (protective genes). Although children with AIS have both sets of signs in their DNA the ratio of signs present in a DNA sample predicts the likelihood that the child’s curve will or won’t progress. A validated algorithm generates a SCOLISCORE number unique to your child’s individual genetic markers. This score is provided to our doctors so that they may review the results with you to come up with treatment options that are best for you.

  • The SCOLISCORE Test is the first and only test proven to give doctors insight into the possible progression of AIS.
  • The SCOLISCORE Test is a painless lab test performed on your child’s DNA via saliva samples obtained in our office
