Scoliosis Research

Scoliosis Research Articles

While scoliosis treatment has been around since the time of the ancient Greeks, the research basis has really only be emphasized over the past 50 years or so.

None the less, over the past 20 years or so there have been some outstanding research in the field of scoliosis treatment, much of it coming from the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) and the Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT)

While there are many types of scoliosis treatment that are currently being made available some have a lot of backing in the scoliosis literature, while others have relatively little backing. Some of the most commonly used “standards of care” treatments used in conventional medicine have shown very little in the way of clinical efficacy. Knowing what works and what does not is critical when choosing a treatment method.

This section is an ongoing look at the clinical research behind a wide variety of scoliosis treatments. Before beginning any type of scoliosis treatment you owe it to yourself to first read the research behind the type of treat.

Here is a collection of scoliosis research articles on different types of scoliosis treatment.

  1. SpineCor Clinical Efficacy Research ArticlesSpineCor was invented over 20 years ago by two Orthopedic surgeons that received a $12 million dollar grant to study scoliosis. Since the beginning they have done a lot of research studies on the efficacy of the brace on scoliosis. Learn more about SpineCor and how it stacks up against traditional scoliosis braces.
  2. Schroth Method Research StudiesThe Schroth Method was originally developed by Katharina Schroth in Germany in the 1920’s. It has been updated and perfected over the years and has become the premiere method of scoliosis treatment in that country. Over the past several decades it’s research has proven it to be an effective method of conservative treatment.
  3. Chiropractic Treatment for Scoliosis ResearchWhile Chiropractic care alone has not shown to be very effective in reducing scoliosis curvatures, when chiropractic is included as part of a comprehensive program of scoliosis treatment it has shown efficacy in clinical studies.

  1. I live in Lake Chapala,Mx. part time Calgary, Alberta Canada, have been fitted with a Spincor Brace by Dr. Mendes in Calgary. Our medical plan in Alberta won’t cover this brace either. It was very expensive and I imagine adjustments are going to be the same. Am going to check out this class in Houston, May 10th., have only been following exercises on the computer. Thankyou

    1. Good to hear you finally got fitted for SpineCor. Dr. Mendes is a very good doctor. I’m also glad to hear you are going to be doing the Nu-Schroth classes in Houston. You will get a lot out of them.

  2. Hi, I am 59 and am shrinking, and been suffering all my life, does anything, help?

    1. Kathleen,

About half of the patients we help each year are adults like you that come in because they have pain related to their scoliosis. We are able to help the vast majority of them relieve or reduce their pain and get back to enjoying the things they did prior to their scoliosis flaring up. So there is a good chance we would be able to help you too. To find out, I would recommend that you give us a call for a Free Scoliosis Phone Consult to find out if our treatments are right for you.
