How To Free Yourself From Scoliosis Related Back Pain, Without Surgery
December 7, 2016
Does it hurt to stand up straight for any length of time? When was the last time you did any type of physical activity without pain?
Back pain will cause your life to come to a dead stop. It prevents you from living an active life and enjoying family and friends. Millions of adults with scoliosis over the age of 40 suffer from debilitating lower back pain.
Your back is the pivot point for the movement of your entire body so it's critical that it be well centered. Research shows that the farther you move away from your body's midline, the more likely you are to have pain.
If you've ignored your scoliosis over the years then chances are it's progressively worsened and as you've aged and now it's collapsed to the point that it now puts pressure on your nerves creating pain. If this collapse of your spine isn't treated it's likely that it will continue to progress in a downward spiral and you could develop more serious back problems that may lead to an expensive and extensive scoliosis surgery, which too often leads to additional surgeries years later.
What can be done? There is no shortage of hyped up products offering to solve your scoliosis related back pain. Everything from magic traction chairs, restrictive back braces and expensive boot camp therapy programs. It’s no wonder that most people are truly confused about what works and what doesn’t.
Twenty years ago group of scoliosis researchers lead by two orthopedic spine surgeons from St. Justine's Hospital in Montreal Canada set upon coming up with a better solution. Their research, funded by a $12 million dollar grant from the Quebec government, examined all types of scoliosis treatments and concluded that a new rehabilitative approach to scoliosis brace treatment was needed.
SpineCor Was Born
They started off by developing this new approach called SpineCor, a dynamic tension orthosis for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis to help teens avoid surgery. This new and innovative approach was polar opposite to the conventional hard brace because it moved with the body to re-educate the muscles. It was not only found to be more effective in helping adolescents stop progression of their curves but it was also clinically proven to help improve their curves as well!
If fact, a long term outcome research study in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics reported that 98% of the patients who had completed their SpineCor treatment after they had stopped growing and were out of the brace for two years were able to avoid surgery.
When the Medical School of the University of Montreal tested SpineCor non-rigid brace against a number of the most commonly used hard braces it came out on top, showing a much greater effectiveness in avoiding surgery, in one case 4 times as beneficial. They also noticed that after completion of the treatment that many patients, (nearly 1/3rd) had continued improvements in their curves even 2 year after the completion of their treatment with SpineCor!
Pain Relief Device For Adult Scoliosis
In most cases, adolescents with scoliosis do not have back pain, but on the opposite is true for adults with scoliosis. The doctors found that many of their adult patients with scoliosis in their youth now had back pain, but there was no viable treatment option for them short of surgery or reliance on pain medications. Since SpineCor had been so helpful for adolescent scoliosis, could it also be helpful for adults too?
So they went back to the lab and created a second generation model of SpineCor designed for adult use and began a clinical trials to find out how effective it was in helping adults with scoliosis related pain.
The criteria they used for adults include providing fast pain relief, long lasting results, easy to apply yourself without any help, and most of all it could not interfere with doing your regular daily activities. After creating this breakthrough soft brace that helps the body move back towards midline that provides real results they patented and trademarked as “SpineCor Pain Relief Back Brace”.
Clinical experience during the two year development of the adult SpineCor brace involving 200 adult patients. Some patients demonstrated pain relief within a few hours of being fitted in some cases, with 90% of the adult patients reporting pain relief within six weeks of use.
The SpineCor Difference
While SpineCor was initially called a scoliosis brace, it's not like a brace at all. It's more of a rehabilitative garment that you wear. Instead of being made of hard plastic that restricts the torso like a body cast causing weakness, SpineCor is made of elastic bands that allow for movement of the body. While wearing it you can move in any direction you like but it gives your body a gentle reminder, "no, go this way", which overtime allows the muscles to create new muscle memory in the direction of correction.
What makes this such a game changer for so many adults with scoliosis is the patented SpineCor design allows for movement of the body so it actually strengthens the weakened muscles in back. This helps reduce the imbalances in your scoliosis and help align your body back towards it's midline providing better balance in the spine and taking pressure off the compressed nerves in the back to relieve your pain.
SpineCor is fitted specific to the individual, based on their curve pattern and their body shape with the help of SpineCor Assisted Software technology to help reduce or eliminate back pain.
- Relieve back pain
- Stop scoliosis progression
- Can improve curves, even in adults
- Have better posture throughout your day
- Allows pain free movement to enjoy your life
There is no shortage of cheap imitators on the market today. A number of companies have been producing knockoffs of the SpineCor brace dynamic orthosis and try to claim their suit is not a brace but it's just as good or better. The problem with these knockoffs is that they don't have any long-term research studies behind them and have few clinical trials showing the effectiveness. Also, they only work for certain curve types and only when walking and don't work when you sit, stand or lay down, so their potential benefit is further limited.
SpineCor works in all positions and has a 20 year track record with dozens of research studies backing it's effectiveness and its FDA approved. Additionally, they continue to innovate and improve the design. In fact, they've just released a 3rd generation improvement called SpineCor Comfort Plus Brace for Adults.
