Our practice focuses on the alternative treatment of scoliosis for both children and adults with our corrective movement therapy program. The goal is to help you relieve your pain and avoid scoliosis surgery using the latest innovations in conservative scoliosis treatments.
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Treatment
Right around the onset of puberty is when scoliosis most commonly starts. This is due to the rapid growth of the spinal column and hormonal changes resulting in a delay of the growth plate on one side of the vertebra that results in the initial lateral bending of the spine.
If left untreated, the bones will continue to grow unevenly causing the spine to bend and twist This can cause secondary changes to occur like the development of a rib hump on the side of the curve and a flattened area on the other side. The rest of the body has to adapt to these central changes, which further reinforces the abnormal scoliosis patterns causing them to progress in the vicious cycle of scoliosis.
The conventional medical recommendation is often to just to “watch & wait” and do nothing. Yet this advice often leads to further progression of the curve which making the scoliosis even more difficult to correct. In our practice we recommend instead to intervene as early as possible, when the scoliosis is most correctable. By providing conservative measures while your child’s still growing can help them reduce their scoliosis curvatures by assisting the delayed side growth plate catch up. This helps reduce the structural component (changes in the bones of the spine) resulting in a permanent reduction. (Learn More Below)
Adult Scoliosis Treatment
Adults are done growing so the structural component of their curve is essentially set. While the bony changes that have already occurred that doesn’t mean that conservative treatment cannot help adult scoliosis. Every scoliosis has both a structural and a postural component of the curve. The postural component is the collapse of the curve over time due to gravity, which can be upwards of 20% of the total curve.
In adults the further collapse of the spine is usually where the pain comes in. Fortunately it usually quite correctable in most adults. While you shouldn’t expect total eliminate your curves with our treatments, you can expect elimination or reduction of your pain and postural distortion with our corrective movement therapies.
Our treatment is designed to help you naturally improve your overall body’s posture by moving it more towards mid-line by lengthen and strengthen the specifically shortened and weakened muscles in your spine. This allows you to improve the postural collapse of your curve, which is causing your pain. This can diminish your scoliosis curves and help you take control of your curves without the need for an invasive scoliosis surgery.

I am seeking an exercise and treatment plan for my adult scoliosis (app. 30 degree curve) in the Indianapolis area. I see there are no offices in this area, and was wondering what my closest options would be for your weekend intensive retreat. I also am curious as to the retreat pricing, and whether insurance may cover any part. Thank you.
