Scoliosis Is Like A Backwards Bicycle

I came across this really interesting video that I had to share with you all. It’s about how our brain unconsciously adapts its movements depending on machine it is using to get around. It also illustrates just how difficult it is to unlearn these ingrained pattern, unless you specifically target and practice them on a daily basis.

Scoliosis exercise in your brain is like unlearning to ride a backward bike. Watch this amazing and funny video to see what I mean as it illustrated this point quite well.

Your scoliosis is like the backwards bicycle. It’s part of the machine that gets you around and over time your brain has learned to ride it to get from place to place even though it’s not set up the right way.

Just like the guy on the bike learning to ride a normal bike again after you’ve learned to ride backward bike is not an easy task. When you have scoliosis your brain will have some trouble learning how to move into corrected position. In fact, I would venture to say that without specific training and practice it would be nearly impossible.

You literally, have to “re-wire” your brain to begin to use those correct pathways, instead of the old default pathways that have contributed to your scoliosis. That’s why patient’s must start off doing corrective movements slowly, otherwise their brains will automatically default to the old movement patterns.

That’s why Corrective Movement Therapies, like the Nu-Schroth and SpineCor can be helpful for scoliosis, if you’re willing to put in the work to make the change.

    1. As the video discussed his son was able to make the transition over much more quickly as young brains have more neuroplasticity, but as you saw Dustin was able to master it as well it just took him longer. We have had patients your age and older that have been able to improve their scoliosis with our treatment programs so there is a chance we could help you too. Obviously, we would need to evaluate you to determine if you are a good candidate or not for our treatment programs but your age isn’t necessarily a limiting factor as long as you are willing to stick with it. 1. Really an interesting concept. I am interested in learning about what treatment options you have available (I haven’t had the chance to research them yet!). I do have one question though…..do any of your treatments consist of wearing a brace to correct scoliosis? (I already tried this route about 5 years ago, and it is not for me, so that’s why I am asking.)

Many thanks in advance for your reply/response!
